There is an interesting mutual form of class cosplay in our society: while the wealthy purchase distressed luxury items for thousands, the lower classes imitate status through fake luxury symbols of brands. Despite this exchange, economic inequality persists, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. The Ministry of Performance is buily upon this reality. Citizens can choose identity packages and must comply with strict rules about garments, income, and lifestyle. The inconsistency between apperance, behaviour, and the chosen package is penalised, and belonging depends less on who one is, and more on how convincingly one performs a socially legible identity.
